What's wrong with a conventional dirt or concrete crawl space? The problem is that the air under your house is not conditioned like the air inside of your house is. This unconditioned warm dirty air rises and is sucked into the interior of your house repeatedly. This dirty air contains mold spores, radon gas, moisture, unpleasant musty odors, and whatever else is airborne into your home. Replacement air or outside air enters your crawl space through vents and other areas. That outside air is constantly sucked into the crawl space. This natural up ward air movement works in the same way a chimney draws air out of your home. Up to 40% of the air we breathe on the first floor of our homes comes from crawl space air. |
| Why does a crawl space hold so much moisture? Moisture is constantly sucked in through the vents. It leads to musty odors, the growth of mold, and fungi. Moisture creates the perfect environment for insects that destroy wood. |
Even though the dirt may seem dryer on the surface, if you dig down into the dirt you will find that it holds moisture. If you don't stop this problem now you can ruin your house. Too much moisture can lead to costly repairs and health issues. These problems not only affect the floor systems above but affect the whole house. Water, heat, and ultra-violet radiation destroy organic materials and especially wood. The most damaging of the three is water. Installing a vapor barrier can solve that problem. What is the solution to this problem? Removing the moisture from the ground and air by properly sealing the crawlspace is part of the solution. A sealed crawl space will lead to a mold-free, radon-free, and insect free environment. You will also have a more energy- efficient and healthier home in the process. If you want to avoid the many problems that moisture can cause a crawl space should be completely sealed off from the ground and the humid air outside. By installing a Sealed Crawl Space Encapsulation System you will lower the crawl space humidity. A Seal Crawl Space Encapsulation System is a 7-layer plastic vapor barrier that has been tested and perfected throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland, is now available in your area. Installing a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement crawlspace vapor barrier system. Our vapor barrier system is installed on a dirt or a concrete floor and is fastened to the pillars and side walls. A spray foam insulation is then applied to the top of the side walls and sill around the perimeter of the house. The polyethylene extra-heavy reinforced lining is made especially for this system and is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth under the crawlspace liner. The vapor barrier material is a bright white which will brighten up any craw space. You will realize lower energy costs and reduced humidity year after year. The vapor barrier is thick and tough which will allow service personnel to crawl on it. It is also safe to use as a storage area.
